Litecoin (LTC) has become the “official cryptocurrency of the Miami Dolphins,” the Litecoin Foundation announced through a blog post, July 12, 2019.
Ride the Lightning
The mingling of sports and digital currencies is not something unheard of. To date, a number of high-profile sports clubs have entered into partnerships with blockchain and cryptocurrency startups for shared benefits.
The latest sports club to join the crypto bandwagon is major National Football League (NFL) club, Miami Dolphins. The Miami-based club has named litecoin as its “official cryptocurrency” and aims to leverage the cryptocurrency to digitally enhance its fan base’s experience.
According to the official blog post, the partnership with the Miami Dolphins will help the Litecoin Foundation to not only tap into one of the NFL’s largest and loudest fan bases but also give them the opportunity to market themselves on the club’s website and digital content. The cryptocurrency project will also get a chance to advertise itself at Hard Rock Stadium, the home turf of the Miami Dolphins located in Miami Gardens, Florida.
To the Masses
Per the announcement, the three-way partnership among the Miami Dolphins, the Litecoin Foundation, and Aliant Payments aims to give home fans the option to purchase tickets for the team’s 50/50 raffle with cryptocurrencies like litecoin and bitcoin (BTC).
Notably, the 50/50 raffle tickets are associated with noble and charitable causes as 50 percent of their price goes to the Miami Dolphins Foundation. The 50/50 raffle tickets can be purchased both online and at 14 kiosk and raffle seller locations throughout Hard Rock Stadium, the announcement reads.
Commenting on the partnership with the sports club, Charlie Lee, the creator of litecoin and managing director of the Litecoin Foundation, said:
“This collaboration propels Litecoin in front of an audience of millions of people around the world at a time where adoption of cryptocurrencies continues to gain momentum and the ecosystem is able to support real-world use cases in ways previously not possible. We see this as a powerful way to raise awareness and educate people about Litecoin and cryptocurrencies on a tremendous scale.”
In the same vein, Kim Rometo, the Miami Dolphins Vice President & Chief Information Officer expressed his joy on the development, commenting:
“The Miami Dolphins are always looking for ways to enhance the fan experience, and this partnership with Litecoin provides the ability for guests to enjoy our 50/50 raffle while donating to a great cause.”
