Adult entertainment platform Pornhub has introduced a new crypto payment option for models, enabling support for popular stablecoin Tether (USDT) via its TRONlink wallet.

Pornhub Announces Tether And Cosmo Payment Options

Pornhub announced the news via a blog post on its website published on Thursday (January 23, 2020). According to the company’s statement models on the adult entertainment website now have a new crypto payment option with the adoption of Tether.

The blog post revealed that the new USDT payment option will be made available through the TRONlink wallet. Tron (TRX) is already a crypto payment means on the Pornhub platform.

An excerpt from the blog post by Pornhub reads:

“Since USDT and TRON blockchain have partnered up, we can now pay models securely through TRONlink, a cryptocurrency wallet.  For those of you who may not know, USDT is a cryptocurrency that follows the US dollar, meaning one USDT token is equal to one US dollar. USDT transactions can be done globally within a few seconds and there are no fees.”

The blog post also announced the introduction of Cosmo payment, a Cardportal mobile app that offers global access to customers with the option of making withdrawals from any local ATM.

Back in November 2019, global payment portal PayPal pulled out support for Pornhub. According to PayPal, the Pornhub was reportedly making unauthorized business transactions through its payment channels.

In the aftermath of PayPal’s decision, popular crypto figures like Tron CEO Justin Sun advocated for greater cryptocurrency adoption by platforms like Pornhub. Other commentators also opined that virtual currencies provided an alternative for companies likely to face censorship from mainstream actors.

Crypto to Become Popular on Pornhub?

Given the negligible fees attached to USDT transfers, the adoption of Tether as a payment means could be a boost for virtual currency use on the Pornhub platform which attracts 115 million visits per day.

In October 2018, Pornhub declared that crypto utilization on its service was less than one percent. Apart from Tether and Tron, Verge (XVG) is also another crypto that can be used on the Pornhub website.

Bakkt is already testing its consumer app in partnership with Starbucks. Reports indicate the Bakkt’s consumer app will go live in 2020 offering customers the ability to pay for coffee with Bitcoin.

As previously reported by BTCManager, crypto utility in the retail arena is one of the focus points for the industry in 2020.
